A beautiful landscape remains beautiful, regardless of the weather.Such is this gorgeous and very well packaged set by one of the most influential bands ever.

This European pressing is wonderful - no issues whatsoever. There must have been better quality control, or at least a different master used for this pressing vs. the American one that came out in 2017.

I love the version of "Ride Into The Sun" on this release, good fuzz guitar at the end.

Haven't heard this set myself, but people are saying "I Can’t Stand It" is a previously unreleased mix, not the 2014 remix with the count-in during the solo... true?

True, but it does say "2014 mix" on the sleeve.

Pristine pressing, no pops, clicks or hiss. As for the sound itself: I grew up with the Another View / V.U. mixes of the 1969 sessions, so the new mixes sometimes seem relevatory - never liked the 80s drum sounds for example. Still, for some other songs (Temptation Inside Your Heart, I'm Sticking With You, Ocean) I still prefer the old mixes. But it's nice to have the choice now and to own all of these versions on wax now :)

My copy is generally fine, but quiet. However there is some strange distortion on Ocean, that I don't recognize from before.

My copy, had for $19.99! plays nicely and is quiet. The Velvets weren't known for Audiophile recording methods, so I'll go out on a limb and say, this sounds like the VU. Albeit a nice gatefold and something to read would been welcomed.

Enjoyable to have these new, original mixes. Sound is nice though the first record is way off centered and sounds wavy on “Lisa Says”. Rest of the album plays fine. As a fan of Another View and VU, this release isn’t as crucial to me as it might be to others. Still, I’m happy to have it in my collection.

Sad to see so many knocking this release, as it's actually a pretty good value. You get both VU and Another View, but in better mixes and in one package, and for cheaper than you can buy the originals of both of those albums. It's nice to hear the recently unearthed original mixes of some of these songs and the superior newly remixed versions, all of which first appeared on the pricy deluxe sets of White Light/White Heat and the self-titled album that came out in recent years. This is a nice release for fans who already have superior sounding versions of the original albums and only want the extra studio material.Another thing to consider is, according to some posters on the Steve Hoffman forums, this release wasn't even supposed to exist as a stand alone release, rather, as part of a 50th anniversary box set coming out in a month or so, but apparently was released by accident, or was possibly supposed to come out as a stand alone release at a later date, but someone messed up and released it early. This may have even been recalled already. So for those who didn't jump on this, you'll have to re-buy all the albums again to get this set if it isn't eventually released on its' own. Which, as I stated previously, most fans probably won't want to do just to get the extra material, as they may already have better versions of the original albums.Soundwise, yes, it's cut a little lower, but not by much. I have to raise my volume about 4 or 5 db compared to other records I have, so it's not that big of a deal. It was cut by Ron Mcmaster (RM in the deadwax), and yes, it was probably done from digital files, but this set does not sound bad by any means. It was most likely pressed at United (where Universal farms out a lot of it's vinyl product), and although they're known for poor quality, this set (at least my copy) is fine - thick vinyl, free of defects, well-centered, and only the slightest amount of surface noise, which may be remedied by a cleaning. But straight out of the package, it plays and sounds fine.Packaging-wise, yeah, it looks a little plain, but I don't mind it at all. And the sleeve is wide enough to accommodate both records with just enough room - not too loose, not too tight. Honestly, if this were a gatefold, this set would probably cost 5 or 6 dollars more, so if keeping this set in a single sleeve keeps cost down, and I can get all this great music at a decent price compared to other new vinyl, then I'm all for it. As my late father used to say, "You play the records, not the cover".In short, this set is a great deal for Velvets fans - if you can still get a copy, that is.

I was excited about this release initially, as the 2014 mixes of five of the tunes, and the "original 1969 mixes" of the others, were amazing when I first heard them as part of the 3rd album's Super Deluxe edition. The extended ending to "One of These Days," the restored vocal count-ins to the bridge of "I Can't Stand It," and the filter-less vocal on "Coney Island Steeplechase," made me long for a stand-alone vinyl release of those tracks. This collection has all of those mixes, as well as the remixed versions of the tracks from 1967-68 (the last tracks recorded with Cale, including the early version of "Beginning to See the Light") that were part of the White Light/White Heat Super Deluxe. But I got it home... and it sounds pretty lame. Not "murky," exactly, but with flat sound and criminally low volume throughout. Basically, it has the sound of a vinyl release that appears to have been mastered from digital files, with little presence or dynamics. My original copies of VU and Another View beat it hands-down, even if those mixes were compromised for the '80s market. Add to that a cheapo packaging job, and I guess we'll have to keep waiting for a proper release. Disappointing.

Like jmbooth says: this is a gigantic turkey basically. Saddled with a boring sleeve and terrible sound quality (initial pressings withdrawn) this release is a tawdry entry in the VU catalogue. There's probably some great unreleased Velvets stuff lurking in someone's archive somewhere ... but this ain't it.

This is a cynical release. All it is is 'VU' and 'Another View' combined with one extra song. Some of it sounds atrocious. For example on the fourth side, the side that has songs that John Cale plays on, 'Guess I'm Falling in Love' is very muddy. The guitar in the left channel sounds like an annoying tinny insect. The song does not have the bite and exuberance that it has on 'Another View' both on vinyl and CD. I think that avoiding this and buying VU and Another View makes more sense. The only song that you'll not get is is an early version of 'Beginning To See The Light.
