Budapest based Norwell is the kind of producer who draws up epic tales using very few instruments. Yes, his music is overflowing with brooding synthesizers, soaring filter sounds, relentless beats and dramatic melodies, but Norwell’s main instrument is time. The precisely engineered song structures always take center stage to demonstrate what the subtractive approach and repetition are capable of. With his self-released second album, Grasslands he follows the same principles in the footsteps of German electronic music pioneers – whether that be 70s kosmiche composers or 2000s minimal techno producers.
