Stéphane Pompougnac rightly became famous for his Hotel Costes compilations, and for his debut, LIVING ON THE EDGE, he embodies that chill-out vibe right from the start, with his classic take of Yves Montand's "Pour Faire le Portrait D'un Oiseau." But the chill continues with the sweet "Clumsy," bolstered with vocals by Michael Stipe. "Double Beat" takes a slightly heavier path by swinging into the breaks, while "Morenito" takes a side trip to Brazil. Can't say that the rap on the title track is particularly interesting, but "Loulou De Poméranie" brings out the jazz horns to shock things back to normal. House mavens will get their groove on with "PNC Aux Portes," while those who prefer electro-rock will enjoy "Fast And Loud." "Petit Pompoupou" goes deeper with the house, which leads to the more upbeat "One Soul Rising" before "Closer To Julie" takes things out on a funk note. If you love the Hotel Costes series, you'll love this.
