Jesus guys its a bloody good record. chill and enjoy a throwback.

I just played the lossless download and came here to check who did the mastering for this. The 24-Bit_44.1 audio sounds flat, bass is resonating (aka ‘not taken care of’), too much limiting, the latter probably not just for my taste. Track 2 sounds much lower in volume than the rest, Track 6 lower but not as low as 2.

I've listened to this LP three times through now and have to say that I don't understand mojo_navigator's complaints about it all. It most definitely does NOT sound like it was mastered from poor digital sources, it doesn't sound "muffled" or "smeared" to me, and the pressing quality is very good. I was almost put off from buying it because of how strongly s/he criticized its quality, but I'm happy that I disregarded the review and took a chance on it, because it sounds good: full, punchy, and wholly in line with the production values of other early UK dubwise postpunk material. The mastering engineer, in fact (Noel Summerville), is among the best in the business. A fine release all around, and certainly cheaper than hunting down all the used 12" singles.

I just wanted to second the opinion of Squibbs77 here. I grabbed a new copy the other day and it sounds great.

I'm putting up this review to alert my fellow vinyl heads as to the poor sound quality of this LP since information like this is so hard to find and it is only through forums like this that this knowledge can be disseminated (the record companies aren't exactly going to tell us)I am sorry to say that while the music is of course wonderful, the record itself is terrible. This is quite obviously from a poor quality digital source, maybe even an mp3. On a reasonable deck let alone a good one, you can hear this problem immediately; musical instruments don't breathe, the sound is muffled and smeared, atmosphere that was clearly there on the original recordings sound stifled. On the plus side, there is a reasonable amount of dynamic range but does it really matter when so many other things are wrong? I struggled to listen to it even once - it really gave me very little pleasureMy recommendation is to hunt for the original records rather than let these labels deceive us yet again.

I thought this previous review was a joke at first... This pressing sounds perfectly "fine" to me; It doesn't sound like anything like an MP3 transfer, no pressing defects or noise that I'm hearing on good headphones or speakers. The mastering sounds comparable to the "Unlimited (1979 - 1983)" CD from the mid-'00s, so I guess if that sounded OK to you, this will too. If not, start saving your pennies for those original pressings, I guess. I am perfectly happy with this pressing, worth the $30 it cost from the group's bandcamp, enjoyed dancing to it with my baby. YMMV.

Thanks for this information ... I was thinking of purchasing, I'll take your advice and hunt out the originals ..
