After having self-released three highly limited tapes in the early 90's, "Consecrare", "Via Peregrinus" and "Hortus Conclusus/Triptych"(some tracks from which can be found on the "Years Lend A Golden Charm" compilation), Johan Leving found a home in Sweden's Cold Meat Industry label and delivered his first album "Song over ruins" under his Desiderii Marginis moniker.Throught the nine tracks, Johan uses fair amounts of synth-based textures, percussions, bells as well as vocal and industrial samples to create a dark, gloomy, minimalistic, if at times harsh ambiance, highly effective and moving in it's reception. Altogether however, this production is a bit rought around the egdes and a bit inconsistent, as I in my opinion it doesn't have the necessary complexity and coehesivness of a whole album.Nevertheless, it has some tremendous moments in the likes of "Scintillate II" and "The Core Of Hell II", is produced extremely well, with high attention to sound quality and after 15 years can still bring joy to the listener.
