THE ONLY SHE CHAPTERS, Prefuse 73's final album for Warp, carries on the short tracks of EVERYTHING SHE TOUCHED TURNED AMPEXIAN but featuring a bevy of female vocalists, though the opener, "The Only Recollection Of Where Life Stopped" is an ambient slice of musique concrete. But before long, the chugging beats of "The Only Valentine's Day Failure" grind into being with post-rock sustained guitars, while "The Only Contact She's Willing To Give" takes a more mysterious turn with its ethereal vocals. That continues on as Shara Worden offers her fragile vocals to "The Only Hand To Hold," before "The Only Thief To Steal Tonality" gives itself entirely into abstraction. The late, great Trish Keenan shines up the dense "The Only Trial Of 9000 Suns," while Niki Randa brings some life to the turgid "The Only Boogie Down." "The Only Direction In Concrete" revels in its own chaos, but it's righted by the chanson-feel of "The Only Guitar To Die Alone." "The Only Serenidad" also brings in some brightness, as does the warmth of "The Only Lillies And Lilacs Pt. 2." The longer "The Only Repeat" puts its refraction to work, but overall the album is much too unfocused and diffuse to come together in a coherent way.
