I have a CD that is pressed/labelled by Rhino as "Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons 25th Anniversary" disc #3... that is actually this Steve Miller Band album, "Book of Dreams". It was sent to the radio station I worked at as part of a Frankie Valli multi-disc set. I reported it to the label as I had received multiple copies that were mis-pressed like this and they always requested I send it back and they'd send a replacement. I did... most of the time... but saved this one disc. Wonder if it's worth anything or of any value to anyone.

Steve Miller lives somewhat of a dual musical existence, solidly forging his reputation as a blues man, playing with the likes of Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Buddy Guy, all of whom he’d met during his days in San Francisco, during those splendid nights and the Fillmore … but then, in the same breath, Steve has his lightly tinged psychedelic side, stringing together dreamy romantic wasted numbers that come off smoothly, cleanly, and more often than not intoxicatingly. Even within this quasi psychedelic nature, he still manages to lace unexpected songs together, some on the verge of rocking over the time, while others are as effortless and gentle as smoke, and still able to hold them all in check, fully in control.Book Of Dreams was without, destined to be a hit, riding on the heels of Fly Like An Eagle and The Joker, both of which solidified him as a rock force to be reckoned with. There are many who cling dearly to his first albums, those that came out in the 60’s and spoke to and of those heady times, but Miller was always moving forward, always encompassing wider audiences with a solid sound that belonged to him alone … so it’s not that he’d forgotten or left his alternative and blues roots behind, it’s more that he discovered a way of incorporating them into guitar driven and sonically crafted masterpieces. If anything, Steve Miller as manage to make commercial rock intelligently acceptable.While most of the songs delivered here were laid down during the recording of Fly Like An Eagle, they do have a different flavor, yet along with the aforementioned albums, this gem will forever stand as part of a trilogy of sorts, marking his place on the map during the mid 1970’s, with his take on easy going blues rock adventures that go down easy, are fun, and dance in your head all day long.I wish that I could say that the lyrics are complex, or that the music came out of left field, when in fact, Steve Miller has made what he does sound so simple that it’s almost impossible for him to fail, and to that end, there are few artists who can make this happen time and time again. On another level, to find music so precise and weightless is a sheer joy, and hearing him live in concert is akin to almost nothing else, as the man spans generations, always able to bring new fans into the fold, and is truly one of the few American artists who’s been delivering just what you need, when you need it most.*** The album artwork was created by 60’s psychedelic icons Alton Kelley and Stanley Mouse, two artists who made the 60’s as visually important as they were.Review by Jenell Kesler

The inner sleeve of my Canadian copy has the SO-11630 number on it and states printed in USA. The exterior sleeve has the correct SW-11630 and states manufactured in Canada. The disc has the SW code along with the identifiers mentioned above. It just caught my attention so I figured I would point it out.
