boomkat had this up on their site but then removed it - probably sent back to distributors after they found out it was a boot. i understand LMY's philosophy about releasing/reissuing his work, but damn if I still don't want a copy of this

I had exactly the same feelings about the artwork! Ugly this typeface on the back … It's a lot of work to reproduce the original handwriting in a good way, but it should have been worth the effort. Also strange to mention "issued under license". "Licensed" from whom/what?

The cover states “Issued under licence.”, whatever this means. Since Zazeela's original design has been heavily altered, you can count on this being not licenced from LMY or MZ. Her calligraphy is now white on black, as opposed to black on black, her handwritten text on the rear cover has been replaced by a preposterous typeface (Becka Script, my guess). The pressing is OK, the sound is so/so while I don't know how a fresh 1969 copy had sounded. The beginning of 23 VIII 64 2:50:45 - 3:11 AM The Volga Delta sounds like a vinyl rip. All in all, this is certainly not what you'd expect from a proper reissue of these seminal pieces of music. But then, it's the best copy I've ever heard.

Are we certain that this is a boot? I can't dig up anything on the label, but where is the info coming from that it's definitely a boot?

La_Monte_Old: Total bullshit and the 2nd oldest excuse* when it comes to bootlegs. Reality is: you want to have (ie. own) this record, a physical copy, but don't have the money to afford an original (like most people). This makes you exactly the type of "music lover" bootleggers are aiming at. If you simply wanted to play this LP you would have downloaded a vinyl rip from the internet (ages ago) like 10's of thousands others did before you. Onderstroom is right. If an artist isn't interested in an official repress then so be it. It's his work, not yours. Unfortunately, Onderstroom is a hypocrite as he's selling this very bootleg for 40€ under his AguirreRecords account (as well as The Theatre Of Eternal Music* - The Theatre Of Eternal Music for 110€). *ps. The oldest excuse comes from the bootleggers themselves: "We did this out of love for the music and to help all fans who can't afford an original copy". Then why is it we never see bootlegs priced at manufacturing price (1,95£ per copy that is) but always overpriced considered no royalties will ever be paid.

I have the original, and this sounds really really bad in comparaison. But I was figuring so : who can cut those lenght theses days, that's a forgotten art. When I took my Well Tuned Piano boxed set to a mastering guy friend who has the best cutting equipement available and he saw those lenghts and how they were cut, he had no idea how this was even possible with the quality of sound displayed....

In my opinion you always need to respect the artist's will. Sometimes the artist doesn't stand behind his previous work anymore. I don't think that's the case here, but the actual reason doesn't really matter. What matters is that now somebody is earning money with a recording to which he has absolutely no rights. Whenever i can't find an authorised re-issue i stick with the mp3s. What's wrong with a decent vinyl rip from an original copy? mp3 / wav vinyl rips are also illegal, because they're not authorised by the artist, but at least nobody is making money releasing someone else's work.

A better job could be done regarding the layout of the backcover … The original is very beautiful, but for this bootleg reissue they just typed the text in a typeface that does not fit the rest of the artwork (but it's a bootleg anyway, so maybe not worth the effort) … pressing sounds OK to me …
