Funny thing: track B2 is not an unmixed tune, it's a part of somebody's mix (maybe Playgroup's but to tell the truth I haven't heard the mix). At the end of it you can hear mixing and fading.

True that. A kind of weird to hear a 'cut from a mix' tune on vinyl ;)

This is a very confusing release. Take a brief look at the listing and you can easily tell that there are two totally different mixes featured here. Yes yes, there's nothing wrong with that but let me explain... Playgroup's take on electro is quite predictable as far as the song choices are concerned. Well known classics from Dynamix II, Model 500, and Hashim a get along well with lesser known electro classics but the thing is that the mixing is quite bad. Or maybe is you like quick mix-it-out-mix-it-in style you won't mind but for me the performance is poor. But if you like proper old skool electro disc one manages to deliver the expectations. The second disc by Alter Ego, is, um, supposed to represent modern electro. Well, you have to very open minded to agree or then electro is just a general term for any kind of electronic music. What we have here is all the styles possible, minimal techno by Daniel Bell, dreadful electro house by Chicken Lips, classic dub techno by Maurizio, UK garage styled 'Dooms Night' remix by Timo Maas. Only some tunes can be seen as electro or electro influenced, but like I said, only a very extensive interpretation can see this mix as electro and to me the concept of electro is almost completely missing. However, some of the tunes are absolutely essential and mind blowing such as harsh techno of Acid Jesus, minimal masterpiece by Robert Hood, and the divine slice of techno heaven by Galaxy To Galaxy. And the mixing is nice as well so what the second disc offers is not modern electro but a nice classic techno mix. Confused? At least I am but that doesn't prevent me from enjoying both discs.
