I bought this album in the late eighties when, basically, all I needed to complete a DM purchase was that DM stood behind the release. Alas, I bought a LOT of crap. This album, however, stands out as one of the good purchases. As the scans reveal there is hardly any information on this bootleg, but from what I've been able to snoop up from various websites (this album is widely mentioned on the web) this was recorded in Glasgow, March 26th, 1982. Certainly, the concert is taking place right around the release of See You which Dave Gahan announces as their new single. And later on the album Dave Gahan announces The Meaning Of Love as a new song ... to an unsuspecting crowd's bleak reception! You can almost tell how many people are greeting this new track. I guess the demise of Vince Clarke and what would happen was still very much up in the air. Anyhow, the sound quality of this bootleg is almost exemplary and back in the days even led me and my DM friends to debate whether someone had gotten hold of the master tapes from this concert. Well, that probably is not the case, but with this vinyl you get fine recordings of hard to get tracks I Sometimes Wish I Was Dead and I Like It. And as for the overall impression, even if you already have DM's colored live series from this period, Toys serves as a worthy addition. Provided you're a devoted DM fan, of course!
