This reissue, despite some surface noise right out of the sleeve, provides the most accurate reproduction of Gish available, beating out the remastered digital version, at least to my ears. Some tracks do sound a lot better than others, which is true of the original release as well. "I Am One" and "Siva" always sounded muddier because they are sonically dense in the loud passages, so that has not changed, and not much to be done about it from an engineering standpoint. Quieter (well, quiet in Pumpkins terms) tracks like "Rhinocerous" and "Suffer" are incredible sounding. Ditto for "Snail". My least favorite song, "Crush" actually is the best sounding track here. The packaging also, basically makes up for any shortcomings the vinyl may have. It is beautiful.

Reading the reviews, there must be something seriously wrong with the current pressings. It sounds horrible. It's littered with surface noises and pops constantly pretty much through the entire record, particularly noticeable in songs with quieter passages, which SP is known for. There are no highs to the audio at all (especially on Side A), like someone's put a lid on it. Really lifeless sounding and terribly compressed. I went through 2 copies via Amazon and they have the same issues, Spin Cleaned them, so it's definitely not an issue of dust or something superficial compromising the sound. Disappointed and sticking to digital for this one

Mine seems like it doesn't have any problems, except for a bit of noise and maybe a slight warp, but you'll get that with any record, right?

Sonic_Reducer_99 Mine seems like it doesn't have any problems, except for a bit of noise and maybe a slight warp, but you'll get that with any record, right? Any record, no. These were pressed by Rainbo, which explains why some people have problems with their copies. It's luck of the draw with lower end plants. The whole run could be messed up or some people might get lucky with a "good" copy whereas others get an off-center one with non-fill.

My copy is definitely off center, which is especially audible and very bothersome during the last tracks of side B: "Daydream" just sounds dreadful! Anyone else with the same issue?

Mine is the same: Off center and warped. It is a replacement copy for another off center, warped one that I returned. *sigh*

Glad you posted that...i thought my player was on the fritz. Massively wowy toward the end of side 2...going to try and find another copy!

I have the original Gish album from Caroline records and I bought the reissue. In comparison the reissue version is very good and true to the original version. The reissue has better bass and sounds crisp. On the original version the cymbals and guitars sound a bit more natural. Plus the sound-staging is a little better than the reissue. Mind you that I could make a direct comparison between the 2 versions of the album!! For a third / half the price of the original version you get really a very damn good reissue! Only when price is really not a issue, than get the original. If it was up to me and I wanted to buy this album. I would go for the reissue version.

Maybe it's just the copy I have, but mine, although otherwise sounding great, has a fair number of loud pops and clicks, especially on side B. Also the LP itself looks wavy? It's hard to describe, but imagine looking at your reflection in a slightly rippling stream...

Sounds like a typical Rainbo pressing to me! I honestly don't know how they get away with it.

Fantastic sound. Very dynamic, excellent sound-staging. In almost every aspect this is a very fine reissue. The vinyl is superb. Absolutely destroys the original CD.

I don't understand why they changed the sleeve. Imo, a great repress should have the exact same artwork.
