I've never liked Will.I.Am nor any of his bands or projects but found myself enjoying the video of "#thatpower" on MTV one night. As a fan of electronic music I was surprised to see Will.I.Am delivering a great song full of electronic sounds that seemed to take the best of House music but add some kind of unique Will.I.Am twist. I decided to check out the album…Although there are a couple of typical hip hop moments, this album illustrates how a new influence can cause an artist to create masterpieces. Many European House influences are clearly evident, but it's clear that Will.I.Am has been moved by them yet managed to create tunes that, at times, exceed the influences.The electronic sounds provide a great juxtaposition with the lyrics and make this album sound almost ahead of its time despite the House music influences that have been trendy in Europe for decades. There's a positiveness in songs like "Hello" and "Great Times Are Coming" that are a breath of fresh air. Will.I.Am jumps across genres yet the electronic beats keep songs like "Far Away From Home" (my favorite) and "Bang Bang" fresh sounding. Even the more Hip Hop songs, like "The World Is Crazy" keep me listening (but not with the kids in the room).It's a surprisingly good album that turns music genres upside down.
