The Sleepers were phenomenal, and that's no exaggeration. This comp (which includes the band's debut five-song EP, the 'Mirror'/'Theory' single and their one full-length disc "Painless Nights", as well as several outtakes from the album sessions) traces their evolution from Stooges-esque garage punk through spacey electro-pop to chilly, majestic postpunk with (in my opinion) hints of prog, and there's not an ounce of fat on it. Every track is brilliant. There were some great bands in San Francisco in the late '70s and early '80s, but the sheer genius of the Sleepers puts them all to shame.
