A three track 12" record and the first I have heard from the impressive CUBS. "Pink Zone" while being fairly lightweight has some interesting moments, not least of all a guitar solo which defies logic in it's scaling ever upward, soaring down in sudden swoops. In ways this is an unnerving little piece of music, After two listens, I cannot say it's catchy, but it's certainly interesting. "Pink Zone (Advanced Listeners Version)" - hey, nice title - is a different version of the same track, with pattering, tinkling percussion, sudden unannounced changes in tempo and that fiery guitar - if it is guitar! - slowing off it's pyrotechnics. They have elements of CLICK CLICK & BAUHAUS while remining much lighter and more poppy. The second side consists of one six-and-a-half-minute version of "Rain" which is a mild but flowing piece of music with some interesting moments, At times it reminds me a little of WIRE impersonating YELLO.Originally reviewed for Soft Watch.
