Jean Borelli (Orion) from Denmark and Ari Linker (Alien Project) from Israel are well known names in the psytrance scene. They have collaborated a lot the last couple of years, especially on a lot of the Alien Project tracks. They have also made a duo called Crunchy Punch, which has performed several times in Japan. I saw them live at Samothraki Dance Festival 2003 in Greece, and it worked well on the dance floor. Here they are out with an album on Solstice Music called Maximum Velocity. The first track is one of my favourites on this album. This one reminds me a lot of the Artificial Frequencies album by Orion. A very trippy, drifting vibe, with a nice groovy bassline and good variation. They have also some cool voice samples in there. This track was originally released on the Holographic Memory 1 compilation on Solstice Music. Track 2 starts with an atmospheric, floating sound, before the heavy groove starts rolling again. Stumping rhythms, and twisted psychedelic sounds swirling in and out of the track. Not as trippy as the Orion tracks, but definitely a lot more psychedelic than Alien Project tracks. Track 3 is another pumping track, with pretty cool melodies. This track has a much more full on sound, but the sounds are not as nagging as the usual full on stuff being released these days. Track 4 starts really beautiful, with deep, mystic floating sounds. Then the totally groovy, rolling bass line is back and we get a really drifting vibe. Sounds a lot like Orion, so if you like the Orion tracks, you will enjoy this too. This track is a bit darker, still with a light touch now and then. You also get some tribal drums in there. Nice one. Track 5 sounds a bit more like Alien Project. Rolling, heavy bass line, and a bit less of those totally trippy vibes as Orion usually give us. But this track is definitely better than the usual Alien Project track. The sounds jumping in this track sounds really weird and funny. We also get some atmospheric breaks and vocal samples in there. Track 6 is a remix of a track called Stoned that probably a lot of you have heard before. This is another one of those drifting tripped out tracks. No cheesy parts, just deep, rolling full on all the way through. Track 7 has the album title. Here we get more of the Alien Project style again, but slightly more twisted. This track is a bit more melodic too. Pure morning trance. Track 8 goes the same direction as most of the other tracks on this album. Trippy vibe, with deep rolling bass line and twisted sounds floating and swirling in and out of the track. A couple of times, we get a beautiful flute in there, which sounds a lot like Raja Ram… We also get some voice samples from the animation movie called Waking Life. A movie about lucid dreaming. The last track on this album is a beautiful chilled track, with dubby rhythms and some beautiful flute and vocals. This album is perfect if you like the deep full on sound of Orion with a touch of the Israeli Alien Project style. Deep, trippy tracks with great sound quality. Recommended.
