Kuve
Nice and chunky dub from Sugar B on his debut I&I PRODUKT, starting with the slow, loping "Landrover," which has a ghostly Middle Eastern vocal buzzing in the background. "Organic Swound" opts for a crisper beat to accompany its tremulous keyboard, while "Love Gladiator Take Care" stays understated for its short run time. "Sugars Authentic Dubdisco" continues on that spare path, while "Nightmare On Dubstreet 43" brings in some screaming to punctuate the bounciness. "Little Irie" offers what appears to be vocals, though placed in a minimalist dub setting, and "Princess Lea" returns to more 'traditional' dub. "True Love" closes the album on more spare dub. A sweet take on dub.

14 yrs after its release it still sound heavy, furious, tribal and meditative. You hear the soundystem culture through and through. The vibes are extremely dense and packed. Masterful work! Shame Sugar B released only so little.

I stumbled on this album by the relatively unknown Sugar B by accident, and what an intriguing album it is! Don't be fooled by the "downtempo" categorization on Discogs -- the sound here is murky, lo-fi dub with deep bass, heaps of echo/reverb and ghostly, sometimes ethnic-sounding voices drifting in the mix. As a whole, the album is definitely on the spookier side of dub, with tracks like "Nightmare on Dubstreet" being particularly unnerving (and a little annoying with the monkey sounds, but that's a small blip on an otherwise excellent release). My personal favourite track is "Little Irie," but there are plenty of other highlights to warrant repeat listens, including "Love Gladiator Take Care," "Princess Lea" and "True Love." Recommended to dub fans everywhere, especially those that like their dub extra-cloudy and mysterious.
