Notes

Counterweight welcomes to the label the rising Berlin artist Opål with this excellent 4-Track full of Techno EP.

The title track, Luminescence, is a rough and hard hitting 4/4 warehouse destroyer. 'Impala' reduces the tension and shows a more melodic side of the artist but still keeping his characteristic industrial touch. On the B side Opål shows what is the definition of 'driving' Techno with 'Eclipse', this is simply amazing. The last track is an absolutely outstanding remix by the Italian artist PVS, who explores new atmospheric shapes and goes beyond simple 4/4 structures.

Pump up the volume, this is real shit!

I purchased this release going through new stuff around online stores I usually order records from. Basically, I was one record short of what I could afford for the same shipping price. My luck, as this has got to be the finest random pick-up for me so far in 2018.I was caught off guard. I have heard this stuff before, but I was not ready to hear it from a newcomer, on a label I never heard of, yet pulled off with so much self confidence. The title track is off the charts hard. Sounds like you combined the militant Ancient Methods industrial tinged percussion with the distorted acid madness of those MPIA3 releases on Avian from a few years back. The A2 tune is just as good, albeit on a different note. A full blown, pounding techno beast of a track with levitating acid synths kicking it with the rather malevolent drum kick. This has got to tear dance arenas to shreds any day of the week. The flip side picks up where the last tune left us. Although similar in intent, the outer cut is more of a steam machine of a techno work out than its more acidic counterparts. Heavy, chunky, rolling techno ammo. The last track sees PVS on remixing duty, and - deservably - it's the chill pill out of the four tracks. However, do take that with a grain of salt, as nothing on this piece of wax is short of a devastating electronic thunder storm. The rework is an off beat atmospheric ride that you'd wanna hop on after getting beat by the previous numbers. It is a nice juxtaposition when placed shoulder to shoulder with the the rasping 4x4 onslaughts manifested by the remainder of this 12".Anyways, to those who fancy artists like Kwartz, SNTS, Ancient Methods, Scalameriya or like to dig back in their old Makaton or Downwards vaults, this is a stop you really want to make. Pumping techno goodness done in the proper, rugged kind of a way. Original? No. Invigorating, hell yes. Nice one.
