The Workout is a masterpiece of track selection and mixing. Carl Craig at his best.

This is a very solid, enjoyable mix with only a couple of weak tracks. Personally, I've never been a huge fan of Adult and even the C2 mix included here doesn't change my mind. I also don't dig "superficial" by Amp Fiddler too much as the chorus makes me think of "my prerogative" by Bobby Brown. Yuck. Anyway, most of the tracks here tend to land at the crossroads of classic techno and a mid to late 90s house sound without exactly sounding like either. There are also some electro sounding bits and some vocal based tracks. Basically, you get a nice spectrum of styles that flow together well and sound fairly up to date. Admittedly, I had not previously heard of several of the producers that appear on this mix, so now I have some new things to investigate. The liner notes don't explicitly say it, but there are some notes in there that lead me to believe this mix was digitally edited to correct mistakes. While using software to correct mistakes is the norm with many commercially released mix CDs, I'd honestly prefer a raw, unedited mix.

I will listen for that next time I give it another listen. The booklet does say that editing and manipulation was done on a computer. What exactly was edited or manipulated I do not know. Also, just because one mistake is in there, doesn't mean that there weren't other mistakes that were corrected by digital editing. Personally I think it would be interesting to see what Craig has to say about it to set the record straight.

One of my all time favourite mixes which I have listened to many times. One of the hardest things about being a good DJ is finding tunes that fit together and follow cohesively. Carl Craig has done a great job in that respect here, particularly the first disc. Listen to it some more and you will realise that the mix hasn't been digitally 'cleaned up' to correct mistakes. It was mixed live in the studio and the release does indeed contain a couple of mistakes...listen out for a track being mixed in too early and subsequently faded back out.
