As others have asserted, this is a comically poor quality pressing. Probably the noisiest and most artifact ridden new record I have cracked open in the last five years - and like a lot of folks here I buy a load of LPs. (Not bragging, I just have ample chance of hitting a clunker.) Kind of remarkable really; someone was assigned to spot check these before they went out the door; dozing on the job they were, no doubt lulled by an advanced copy of Richter's then forthcoming "Sleep" record.I presume Fat Cat has the rights to this and other early Richter titles and is holding on for dear life as he gains in stature, but it is unfortunate that a more competent label and/or pressing facility was not charged with the repressing. Just because you create a sub-imprint to handle more thoughtful and compositionally directed music does not mean that you are positioned to effect a proper release of finely. Maybe DG or some other will be able to take a run at a future repress, though one of the sad things about a label botching a release - particularly one of a slightly obscure artist - is that it takes away some of the potential urgency/interest of another label to rerelease it again. Pressing plants are stressed to the limit worldwide as major labels queue up to crank out re-do's of Disney soundtracks and the 84th new mastering of the Dire Straights discography - lots of bad work coming out of lesser plants that used to do ok. As for the complaints about the 180gram record weight. Neither the website, the hype sticker on this issue on the shrink, nor any interior information warrants a 180gram pressing. I imagine that whomever handled the entry into discogs was mistake. Definitely more like 140g.

Can't even enjoy because of the surface noise... Does anyone got a great copy without noise?

I'm afraid I have to agree with all the other reviews, the sound quality is appalling. I have heavily-used-and-abused records from the 80s that sound better.

An update: having emailed FatCat Records, they told me that there was a faulty batch and that they now have a new (fixed) batch, from which I will be getting a replacement.

I'm surprised how many people are having problems with this, my copy sounds pretty good.

Extremely poor pressing with all the noise throughout the vinyls. What a shame. Definitely not 180g. I bought the CD long ago so this is more of like a collector's item to me but still.....

I can only confirm the noise on the record. It's so bad, the actual music is drowned in static. Cleaning it didn't work for me, so I had to return it to the shop. And there I've heared that more people returned their copy of Memoryhouse. Too bad, the short moments I could hear the music it sounded wonderful.

180 grs? My copy is thinner than this... I think 140 grs.?

Well, at least it comes with a digital download for when I want to hear it without all the noise. Bit of a shock, all the snap, crackle and pop on a mint, sealed copy. Beautiful looking, not so great pressing. Music 5 stars, packaging 5 stars, pressing, 2 stars.

My copy starts very crackly, but the second disc is absolutely fine. Would normally bother me more, but I actually find it complements the music quite well. Doesn't excuse the pressing, but doesn't bring out my anger like other noisy pressings would. The music itself is of course stunning; although probably my third or fourth favourite Richter record, still a wonderful collection.

Lovely vinyl but very noisy - I have never seen (or heard) a new record with so much surface noise upon opening. Side A is particularly noisy. It gets better at times but overall the record sounds like a very old record bought used. I have tried to clean it several times on my Record cleaning machine but still extremely noisy. Apart from that the music is stunningly beautiful and - as expected - very cinematographic.
