I don't think this is actually an unofficial release. It was available from major distributors.

The strange thing about this issue is it only reads, "THE VELVET UNDERGROUND" on the back of the cover. "& NICO" is left off. Anyone know the reason?

Per Bill Levenson (musicman9999), a reissue producer who formerly worked at Universal:"The 2004 mono release is a clever bootleg.""I'm serious. Definitely an unauthorized, unlicensed release."Take that for what it's worth. http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/why-is-this-velvet-underground-nico-tagged-as-unofficial-in-discogs.311354/

Commenting on the sticker that is on the shrink wrap: haven't noticed any "high-definition "whatsoever ,no freaking "super fidelity" . My ears didn't feel and didn't hear any "niceness"The gatefold cover is made alright. The labels look fine , but the sound leaves much to be desired. The recording itself is sourced from what ???
