Possibly bad pressing. My copy of this album was horribly off-centered.

A superb, seminal album that encapsulated the 1970s roots return, this eponymous Planxty record contains the essential Planxty lineup: Donal Lunny (who also was a member of The Bothy Band), Andy Irvine, Liam O'Flynn and Christie Moore. Perhaps the best of the Planxty albums, it boasts many of the classics of traditional Irish music presented in a rollicking manner (that reel following The Jolly Beggar is fun to try and keep up with on your instrument) complemented by slower pieces such as "Sweet Thames Flow Softly). Moore is the storyteller of the group, while Irvine and Lunny together weave a mandola/bouzouki tapestry backing the tunes, and Liam O'Flynn adds the shivers in his powerful pipe-playing. A great pleasure.
