I bought this on the Colors 10 year anniversary tour late August or early September 2017, and I'm only getting around to listening to it in its entirety now. The remaster generally sounds great but there is just something that is SUS AF going on with this press. Run in grooves are trash and it seems like the tracking is wobbly, even though there's nothing to be seen on the record to indicate that, noisy as shit at points too. Kinda sad to be honest, because you can find a bullshit press of The Silent Circus at hot topic that sounds better than this.

Off center pressing with lots of noise and generally just not very good sounding in general.Oddest thing about it is every single side's run in groove doesnt work, the stylus just slips violently into the start of the tracks, sometimes skipping if it goes too fast! I have never seen that on any record before! It's a real shame as I really love this album, but this level of quality control seems to be prevelant in a lot of new vinyl.

Can anyone help me in explaining who I can contact if I think I have a bad pressing? I had a doubt because coma ecliptic sounded horrendous. However everyone seems to be pleased here with this copy. So I purchased the lp land the it's a complete shit show boys. The cymbals are mixed way too high so they cut through everything with an immense amount of static. The vocals tend to do the same when it's loud. The odd part is the quieter parts ("I'm floating towards the sun") sound amazing. Any help is appreciated thank you

I have no issues with this recording, it was pretty silent and the quality was great. Album itself is worth a listen and is a BTBM classic.

My copy of this very well might be the best sounding album in my collection. Extraordinary pressing.

The quality of this pressing seems to be a hit or miss. Side D (Viridian and White Walls) has horrible hissing and popping with a couple visible divots. The record itself is flat but while looking down directly my headshell bobs severely side to side. Very upsetting for me as side D would be my most desired side to listen to. Side A exhibits similar bobbing tracking movement but not as bad. The other two sides track without this behavior at all, near perfectly though. I'll rely on my 140gram pressing if I want to listen to this LP in the future.

tangerinegripz Seems like you have a case of Side A and Side D being pressed off-center. You'll have to make the spindle hole bigger and center it yourself if you want to listen to it without bobbing tracking or wow and flutter. Thanks for the tip, I would not have thought to do that. I ended up returning this copy to my local record store and got it replaced. Sad to say, the new copy exhibits the same flaws! I do seriously think that there are quality control issues with this pressing.

How does this sound? I'm thinking about dropping the funds on it this weekend since it just showed up at the record shop I frequent.

Trust me, it sounds incredible compared to the old victory pressings. I have 2 different presses from Victory and this repress/remaster blows those out of the water.

Sounds great. I don't have an old Victory pressing on vinyl to compare, so I am only comparing this to digital - However, it is a very dynamic and clean pressing. I'm very happy with it.

Is there a tour variant of this? I see that this standard black is available at online retailers. Is the one they are selling on tour any different?

So i'm super late here, but the version I got on tour is exactly the same as the copy in record stores and online. Just standard black.

Just picked it up at a show two days ago, sadly it was exactly the same as the one I saw at a record store, and more expensive to boot.

A lot of Blood Music vinyl is 180 gram and colored. The SGM album trilogy reissues (metallic cream mix lp variants) were all 180 gram.https://www.discogs.com/Sleepytime-Gorilla-Museum-In-Glorious-Times/release/9530080https://www.discogs.com/Sleepytime-Gorilla-Museum-Of-Natural-History/release/9530039https://www.discogs.com/Sleepytime-Gorilla-Museum-Grand-Opening-And-Closing/release/9476695

I asked the merch person and they said no and also indicated that most if not all 180g pressings are on black vinyl which I was about to refute until I couldn't come up with a single counter example in my collection.

Didn't appear to be. I was gonna get it @ the Philly show last night, which was AWESOME, but decided to get something else & the album online. It's exactly the same as the one pictured.

The records looked really nice and thick (maybe 180g?). They reminded me of the look that Muse's "The Resistance" and Green Day's "21st Century Breakdown" have; just this really weird smooth, shiny look... like they're not even vinyls, just blank disc. Unfortunately, "Colors" has quite a bit of hiss and sounds compressed like its on FM radio. I have older Led Zeppelin & Beatles vinyls that sound quieter and better in the silent passages than this (ex: beginning of Foam Born). When the band starts, that stuff goes away, but there seems to be a boost in the higher frequencies. The snare drum, cymbals and vocals has a jump in the 10khz range and up compared to the CD. My copy also seems to have some fairly loud surface noise in the quiet sections too. I own a regular black double vinyl copy. Luckily, "Alaska" and "The Great Misdirect" sound fantastic, but with a bit of surface noise and light crackling, too.

This review's use of the term 'vinyls' makes me want to disregard it entirely. My copy doesn't have any glaring issues, actually sounds quite nice. Occasionally the high end kinda planes out but that's not often at all.

this is considerably more listenable, but still only clicks in places. the vocals are still a significant barrier for a lot of people.the first track begins somewhere between radiohead and queen, complete with a reference to the bends. insert cookie-monster screaming. next, it opens up into an alice in chains track. insert cookie-monster screaming. from there, we're transported to ancient egypt through the medium of an isis influence, although it actually sounds more like tool jamming on a well known bassline from bjork. insert cookie-monster screaming. then system of a down takes over for a bit. insert cookie-monster screaming. more system of a down, maybe a bit of porcupine tree, then danny carey takes over again. and that's just the first three tracks.this has been marketed as some kind of massive, 8 part epic but what i hear is more along the lines of a bunch of 30 second rips of platinum selling records pasted together with long periods of generic cookie-monster metal. just because it's long and spliced together doesn't make it brilliant. just because it has multiple parts doesn't make it epic. the tracks don't flow into each other; when they change direction, they literally just change direction. if we're lucky, we're provided with the segue of a 16th note pause but most of the time we don't even get that; the build ups are not build-ups, they're the sound of somebody changing the channel on a tv set. indeed, those that have a commercial-length attention span and/or MTV-induced ADD may find this epic but the rest of us simply won't.so, while it's not epic, it's not a masterpiece, it's not very creative, it's not very abstract and it's most certainly not brilliant it is interesting due to it's remarkable level of cheese and the implications that follow from the reality that so many have concluded that this is actually brilliant. has our television-induced lack of an attention span actually become so obiquitous that an hour long collection of jingle-lengthed musical diarrhea is considered to be brilliant by legitmate (i.e. not rolling stone, allmusic or pitchfork) music critics?this is an intriguing medley, but when did the medley become a serious artform? the guitar playing is at times fairly substantial, although it never gets outside of the box. it is again all about reciting modes and a musician knows damn well that anybody that can read music can do that. when did technical ability (not virtuousity. ability.) replace artistic creativity as a metric of musical value? to be fair, there are real guitar solos in track 5 and track 8.again, these guys are trying. that deserves some respect. furthermore, there is a definite improvement over the last one; the cock rock nods are almost gone (the last track stll has one) and the cookie monster is buried even further into the mix. that's why i picked this over alaska to keep as a souvenir of the show i was nearly killed at; while the strong points of alaska are stronger than the strong points here, i can actually listen to this all the way through without cringing and lunging towards the "skip" button.that being said, this is a disc that i'd like to splice up but have decided not to. there are two reasons. first, it's weakly conceptual and i'm kind of big into leaving conceptual pieces intact. second, if i was going to splice the medley up, i'd be splicing through the tracks as well and that's just more trouble than is worth. i'm only going to listen to this once or twice a year anyways...so, they're moving in the right direction. i won't be surprised if the next one actually turns out to be listenable; a pre-requisite for listenability would be making the choice between intelligible lyrics or no lyrics at all. just, please, don't pull david lee roth out of his grave...
