The green pressing from Rough Trade sounds pretty good to these ears. It's dead quiet and flat, and I'm glad I ordered it. Well done.

Just purchased the last copy of this LP from Rough Trade... I was sent an opened (obviously a previous return) copy on black wax... to say that this is the worst sounding record I have ever spun would be an understatement... playing it on a Thorens 125, SME arm, blah blah... SO much noise on this pressing that it made me sad and getting the run around by Rough Trade has made it all the more annoying. Poor form from all involved.

I would like to add to the chorus of opinions on the quality of the green vinyl pressing in order to help purchasers form an enlightened opinion. I have just purchased a sealed copy of the record and would like to advise that it is very, very nice. I cannot detect any manufacturing problems whatsoever. It’s a very well-pressed record. The sound is warm and mellow, perhaps not quite as dreamy as the vinyl pressing of “Bavarian…” but that’s an observation, not a criticism. Since there seems to be some controversy about the various vinyl pressings of Until The Hunter I want people to know that they will almost certainly not have any issues with this record and shouldn’t hesitate to get the green pressing if they're are currently on the proverbial fence

Mine sounds like absolute garbage. Sounds like a cd slammed onto vinyl that was manufactured in a barn. The surface noise is almost louder than the music.

My copy is shit as well. This must be pressed at Rainblow. I have never had an Optimal pressing with this rubbing sound coming out of the right channel annoying. back for a replacement we go.

Regarding the instances of poor quality copies mentioned below; it's definitely not a whole run of bad pressings; my copy (mint coloured vinyl) sounds absolutely pristine and flawless.

I have the black vinyl edition and I have to say it sounds wonderful. I am playing it on a Rega RP1 with a Rega Carbon cartridge and the records have minimal surface noise and have dynamic sound. No doubt some are getting bad pressings and they should be returned. It's the only way to hopefully get QA improved. It's unacceptable to pay good money for vinyl that is horrible sounding. From the matrix info it looks like the metal work was done at Rainbo Records and the vinyl pressed at Optimal in Germany. Of course I could have that backwards....

Just picked this up on black vinyl. I only brushed it lightly before spinning (no VPI clean) and the surface noise was very minimal and I thought the overall sound was very good. I am very please with this copy. I can't wait to hear how it sounds after I give it a deep clean.

Just received my vinyl today (colored version) and it sounds delicious! Amped to the max!!!

I have a copy on green vinyl and it plays without any faults. SME 3009 Shure MX97XE which is very sensitive to poor vinyl. Great album shipped from Rough Trade

Beautiful work, but awful quality black vinyl. Sounds like your typical Plain recording-- a company one can only imagine does not care much about the artists it releases on vinyl or its customers... definitely NOT its customers. Am awaiting my third replacement and will update this post if I get a clean copy... but my instincts as a collector say that will be very unlikely.UPDATE: I've now tried three black vinyl and one green vinyl copy-- unless you enjoy loud surface noise breaking through the beautiful sonic paintings on this LP and distracting you constantly, I'd advise against the vinyl. I'm using a Soundsmith Hyperion cartridge, Clearaudio linear arm, SOTA Star Sapphire table. I use a Hannl Micro RCM. Cleaning multiple times made very little difference. Perhaps if I spent hours...

Agree. The surface noise is horrible. Really disappointing. Avoid this pressing. (I have the black vinyl)

Sounds like you have had some bad luck. Thankfully my copy does not suffer from the issues you are describing. (Gyro, rega exact).

I'm sorry to hear that you're having a bad experience with this LP. I picked one up and in my experience it's quiet and sounds wonderful. However, your table is a bit nicer than what I have so maybe yours can pick up more nuisance noises than what mine does ( Project Debut Carbon ).

I pre ordered and received my copy a few days ago. The green vinyl is lovely. But disc one has non-fill on side two and both disks have loud ticks and pops throughout. I tried cleaning the discs with my Hannl RCM, but you can't clean non-fill away and the remaining noise was only moderately reduced. The LP's were in cheap black paper sleeves BTW. I've requested a replacement from Rough Trade and am awaiting their response. My view is that bad vinyl should always be returned. I'm often told that my copy was an anomaly, but I collect a LOT of vinyl... my feeling is the label should just fess up to a bad pressing run, but if not, I'm okay returning it over and over again until I get one of those all so common "good copies" that apparently everyone but me got on the first go.I'll update this post with the outcome soon. ***UPDATE: Be careful when dealing with Rough Trade in the EU-- my green vinyl copy suffered from non-fill and loud noise. I kindly reported this to Rough Trade and asked for customer service-- three times via email to multiple listed email addresses-- I NEVER ONCE received a single reply. Their customer service is NONEXISTENT. They DO NOT stand behind their products and the US label can't help you with that edition either.

Mine is also very, very noisy. And it's astonishing how few records come in a poly lined inner sleeve. Pretty disappointing. I'm over colored vinyl. I used to only ever get black, and I'm a sucker for being drawn to the colored special releases. Back to black for me, I can't take all of these s#$tty pressings.

true, bad quality of pressing, usually colored vinyl sounds mostly less brilliant, but people like bling-bling ;-)

I'll try and hide my utter contempt for the particular dealer who has now raised the price to £48 as he seems to pull this stunt on most his releases (£13 12", his price £40).
