it's time for Universal to publish this on LP ! it's not like they would spit on the $ !

You'd swear these two were in a band together for a decade and this was the greatest hits compliation. Every track is a gem. If you like either Knopfler or Taylor, you need to hear this.

The sheer amount of creativity that this mastermind brings to life is outstanding. 'Sailing to Philadelphia' is just another milestone in Mark's solo ministry and has proudly earned it's place in the pantheon of folk and classic rock.

Sailing To Philadelphia is only the second solo album by guitarist and singer/songwriter Mark Knopfler. Most of the records he released during and after Dire Straits were (not always exciting) soundtracks. This cd makes it clear once again that Knopfler the only man behind the band Dire Straits was raised in 1993. Sailing To Philadelphia regularly think of plates as Love Over Gold and Brothers In Arms. However, the difference is in the fact that Knopfler now (still) something quieter and more place has given to his folk-and countryroots. Sailing To Philadelphia is a beautiful, controlled cd from someone who has nothing more to prove and thus do not need the best of themselves. Guests include James Taylor, Van Morrison and Glen Tilbrook and Chris Difford of Squeeze.

Man I love Dire Straits so don't jump down my neck. This is easily the best if Knopfler's work that i have heard

Its hard to tell if Knopfler's getting tired or it's the evolution of music. This is much better than Golden Heart. Its both faster, slower, more varied, and has quite the mix of instruments. Check this out on a Hi-Fi system with strong bass and clear highs and it is another experience, as with all dire straits records. Even his mellower songs on this album have a happier tone, less depressing than GH. Great experimentation with instruments, styles, rythms, etc. This man puts a lot of work into his music and it makes a better product. I've been listening to this album since 2002 and am not sick of it yet. My favorites are what it is, sailing(moody), baloney(cool bass line, and guitar sound), speedway(whoa, thats different!), and junkie doll(classic blues/rock sound). Sadly, the others, especially the faster Do America, let me down. This album is worth buying and if had three more GOOD songs, i'd rate it a 5. I give it a 4. Oh yeah. Some of these songs you have to listen to a few times to get the "mood", the rythm, etc. Give it a chance and it'll grow on ya!
