RE “ATLANTIC BRIDGE” ENDORSEMENTAtlantic Bridge aka London Jazz Four was an active and popular jazz group in the UK in the late 60s/70s. The LJ4 featured on BBC Jazz Club broadcasts, headlined at Ronnie Scott’s World renowned Frith Street Club and recorded on POLYDOR, CBS and PYE labels. Jazz Music Mission - to achieve concert status: By abandoning ageing jazz formats, the LJ4 sought to connect with it’s public through the adoption of the then current popular music composers’ output. Songs of the day, typically by Jimmy Webb and the Beatles, were adapted and reworked maintaining recognition but incorporating jazz invention and some of the style of the emerging jazz masters.ATLANTIC BRIDGE CDOriginally released on vinyl in 1970 this is arguably the quartet’s best example of the achievement of the group’s mission. The record sold well but the group failed in its attempts to engage with a Management Agency to expand its market penetration. THREE CHEERS to ESOTERIC ARTS and its outlet CHERRY RED Records for the reissue of this on CD.ENJOY! Jim Philip (reedman)
