From the article "Screaming For No Reason: The Music of Bill Orcutt and Adris Hoyos" from issue 4 of Surround: "It’s worth pointing out that a desire to draw attention to the materiality of the recording process, and of tape itself, can be seen in one of the earliest Pussy releases, the Vigilance cassette released by Chocolate Monk in 1993. On that tape, the sound cuts out and hops forward and backward every dozen seconds or so, a disorienting effect that Orcutt insists was deliberate. “The tape is intended to have the gaps. I’m a Godard fan and always liked the way the sound would drop out periodically in his movies.” Immediately after such highbrow allusions, however, he adds: “It was also a useful way to pad out a short recording to fill a 2 hour tape, since we could reuse the snippets.”"

Dylan Nyoukis from Chocolate Monk, in the Wire, on this tape: "...I guess the recording mechanism was a bit goofed up so a gap keeps appearing".
