Sound quality? I mostly complain about modern pressings. How is this?

The Spellbound Reissue is pressed nicely - flat and centred and looks great. Sounds OK, not a wow, but don't have an original with which I can compare. It would be nice to know Spellbound's source.

THANKS! Will do so. Some day... I'm really pissed. As I always say: WHEN YOU DO IT, DO IT RIGHT!

Not really good. Compressed and digitized to death. Avoid and go for the 2006 Japanese reissue which is digitally sourced too but sounds significantly better though IMHO.

US saxophone player Paul Gonsalves, recording on a UK label – as he lived in the UK for a while. Great friend and colleague of Duke Ellington. Apparently according to some sources, the title track was named after his heroin dealer! (EDIT: Although, the sleeve notes actually say: "The Jackie in part of the title track alludes to Paul Gonsalves friend, club-owner, musician, and fight-fan Jackie Sharp.")
