Stellar release without a doubt. One of the most groundbreaking breaks albums to have come out and without a doubt one of my favorites. Props ILS!

Another one of those LP's you should own, no matter what style of electronic music you like. A masterpiece in production, rhythm, groove, emotion & soul. Oozing class from start to finish Ils creates an LP for your listening pleasure. He cut his teeth making quality d & b & you can hear those skills in this lp, although the tempo is slower he never looses that sense of mystery. Not a huge dancefloor LP but a "proper" album made for the headphones. Top stuff.

ILS' second album, SOUL TRADER, starts with "6 Space (Next Level)" humming quiet tones... and then the breaks kick in. Because, really, that's what this album is all about: the beats and the bass. ILS offers both in copious amounts. "Are You Ready?" adds some blips, while "Prohibition" offers some stand-up funk. "Only Way to Survive" could almost be a house track, but it too slinks its way into breaks; "Find a Way" layers some lovely bell tones atop of its rhythm. I could praise the individual pieces to no end (the harp and vocals on "No Soul," the vocal samples and guitar strums of "Music," the piano of "Trapped"), but it doesn't change the fact that they're mostly window-dressing to the beat. Not that this is a bad thing, but it does limit how one reacts to this album. The two additional mixes, however, shake up the album in their own ways: High Contrast go for moody drum 'n' bass with their take of "No Soul," while Evil Nine injects a growling electric guitar. The emotion and energy offer a blast of life to a perfectly OK album.

This Album is excellent and after the great opening track '6 Space (Next Level)' and the second track (Find A Way) with the lyrics 'It was if we felt no fear, as if we were already dead and we had nothing to lose by dying, maybe we were just f*cked in the head ?....we got a get out of here.. If I can find a way ?'. From an excellent film in 1979 ? though no mention of this in the credits. then the music just gets better. There's two tracks from the 3 X 12" that I'd say were average. A well executed Album in my opinion 9/10 *****
