The unreleased edit of M7 is better than the released version IMHO. A vinyl release would be nice, but unlikely...

This is the album that changed my views of electronic techno music and what was capable with it. There is still something so special about these songs they've never been equaled or matched by anyone. There have been some great recordings after this but very few I visit as often. I have all editions made of this CD and although I have a few complaints about the metal case of the first edition the music made here is why I still have interest in electronic music today. It becomes more and more clear each time I hear these songs played in clubs why so many view them as timeless, they really are.

Probably one of the best and certainly most influential techno producers of the 1990s. Unfortunately, Maurizio's style led to a lot of clones and sub-par producers jumping on the dubby tech-house bandwagon in the early 2000s. No matter, the original sound from the master shines through even today. Deep sub-bass, static, a steady house tempo 4/4 kick, and those hypnotic dub effects make for some great listening. There is a distinct emotional resonance and timelessness to these tracks that is sorely lacking in a lot of the nth generation dub tech clones. Probably because they are using cheap software presets while Maurizio was building his sound the hard way with outboard equipment. At the time, I don't think there was anyone out there who thought of combining techno with 70s Jamaican dub music. For that alone, Maurizio deserves a place in the techno history books. If you are serious about techno music, this is an absolute must have. I really can't recommend it enough.

Without a doubt one of the greatest records ever made. The vibe and atmosphere are new. Never heard or played before. Mortiz von Oswald went on to become one of the most influential producers of music in the 1990s. In the 1980s he was percussionist for Palais Schaumburg, but would segue into electronic music. First as 3MB, later he co-founded Basic Channel Records (with Mark Ernestus), whose various releases came to epitomize minimal techno. Von Oswald's epic M series of records are characterized by a 4x4 beat with dub-inflected syncopated synth pads, slowly modulated over time.

Some more deep and dubby textures from a founding member of the Basic Channel camp. Maurizio is definitely aimed more at the dancefloor -- the rhythm is more pronounced and designed to get your feet moving -- but the minimal aesthetic is still present and kicking. The textures go from subsumed to shiny, and the subtle shifts in modulation keep the tracks exciting. Sure, it’s not as experimental as some of Basic Channel’s work, but when it’s this good, no one’s complaining.

The metal packaging that this comes, though really cool looking, is garbage! My cd cracked! At the time, it was my favorite cd so understandably I was unbelievably choked...I've heard the same happen to others so put yours in another case if you value it. You have been warned!

Me fucking too. I was able to notice it starting to crack, so I used clear nail polish to stop the crack. It worked and I'm very careful with it now and just put it in the case in plastic. Total bummer though.

This was the first time I had heard of Maurizio. I had read about some good stuff coming out on Basic Channel and this was the only thing I could find at the time that was related. Great packaging, songs and dubby techno. Doesn't get any better than that!
