Damn, the one time I don't check the reviews on a pressing and I get this. SO noisy.

I'm in the same boat. Seems to be worse on Side A than the others.

For all those complaining about the sound quality of this issue: yes, this record has surface noise and occasional crackles, but it does not overpower the music in any way. Keep in mind that this album was home-recorded in a 4-track equipment. You can remaster the hell out of it and you will never get rid of its lo-fi quality. I myself find that these small defects add a layer of beauty to the music. Life has surface noise.

Sure, people shouldn't complain, it's not like they paid for their copy. Oh wait... Btw your last sentence (life has surface noise) sounds like a bad movie tagline.

Yramede
The way it originally was recorded has nothing to do with the quality of the vinyl pressing according to surface noise.

I have a clean copy of the original press. No surface noise at all, it plays as cleanly as a CD. And yo, the original is actually a good pressing.

Yes, very very poor pressing. Warps, scuffs, crackles,... the full experience!

I was actually pleasantly surprised about the sound of my copy. Maybe because I had lowered my expectations to the extent were it wasn't possible to disappoint. Nevertheless I'm very happy about my copy. Yes there some (a lot, in some ears) surface noice and some crackles, but it doesn't ruin my listening experience

I wish I had read the reviews here before purchasing. An amazing job with packaging is ruined by a horrible pressing. Going to try contacting LITA but doubt a replacement is going to be better. One of the noisiest pressings I've heard in awhile. Highly disappointed.

Same. on some of the tracks (not on all of them weirdly enough) there is an unbearable crackling all the way through.

My pressing was noisy as well, I will clean it sometime and see if that makes it any better, if not oh well sometimes you need to play something a lot of times before all the cracks get out/less bad (future buyers should be warned about this issue from the beginning). Overall an absolutely amazing must-have folk record though, definitely one of those hidden gems that are still floating out there in obscurity.

The pressing quality is good enough, its got some small pops, but nothing substantial. Don't buy this expecting a MoFi quality press, especially considering the original recording wasn't the best quality either. Appreciate it for what it is, music.

the Problem is: not only the new Vinyl press is poor. also the cd is just annoying. the Sound is so poor that there is no joy with this wonderful record.

I am also not satisfied with the pressing. It sounds like an old record.

Am I just unlucky or is this a poor pressing? I have returned 2 copies and given up on it as Side 2 and 3 have constant crackle. I didn't get to side 4.

LITA was pretty cool about replacing my copies. Both black LPs in mine were awful sounding all the way through. I got them in the mail today and will be play testing them but the woman on the phone assured me this batch is much better. I had been considering shelling out for the original or even bootleg of this album for years. It is one of my favorite albums and one of the darkest things I have ever heard. It is kind of ironic for it's reissue to be so cursed considering how bleak the material is. I am grateful that LITA put in the effort to fix this issue because I probably buy at least 5 of their reissues a year. Good luck and do not be afraid to call their customer service if your LP is defective.

My black vinyl copy has a huge pressing fault on first track side 3. I think the label spent more on the packaging than the vinyl. The inner sleeves were badly split down the seams, just to add insult to injury....I'll be returning it...

No slate on your post, just wanted to highlight the black was garbage too. What happened to quality control? This year I've returned more records than I ever have.

Oops. Guess I should have realized I was posting this on the standard black version. My fault, haha. Yeah, it's tough to know how many erroneous copies exist. Bummer.

Should have said, mine was the standard black vinyl. I really want a copy of this but having had 2 I suspect they are all like this unless a seperate batch was pressed but how do you know? Nightmare

I got the preorder edition (white vinyl) and side 3 had a seriously scratched area. I contacted LITA and they replaced disc 2. I haven't played it yet, but it looks clean and both discs are flat. First disc sounds excellent.

Same here: the vinyl isn't flat, and there is lot of surface noise audible.
