Years ago I bought the Bill Bruford compilation "Master Strokes". On the CD were a few tracks from this album. Jeff Berlin's vocals turned me off right away. Now, having found Gradually Going Tornado for next to nothing at my local shop years ago, the album gets more play than most records in my collection. Once our ear is conditioned, we learn to appreciate vocals or melodic styles that aren't quite conventional. Now that I can appreciate and relish this music, I've noticed that a lot of mainstream vocal deliveries seem a bit... boring? This album is incredibly complex. I love it, and it continues to grow on me.
