Great sound on this issue - clear, spacious and crisp.

Just bought this, but it didn't include a poster of any sort.

One of my favorite VMP releases, I never would have picked it up in the store but I'm so glad it's in my collection!

This the best mix of the album - the EQ on the Island mix is horrible, quite noticable in the way the female vocals have been made very trebly and screechy. You will only realise this when you listen to the original mix - it was a revelation when I first heard it when I was lucky enough to track down an original copy. Island also messed up the tracklisting; the original running order makes much more sense, it is more intense and brooding.

Anyone else's copy starting to warp? Pretty bummed, the outer tracks are almost unplayable after only a few months.

Sounds like your storage is the problem. A record will only warp if incorrectly stored.

Mine is still in mint shape. Great Record.

The CD is listed as released 1989 at http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/the_upsetters/super_ape_f3/Interestingly, the "Island" on the cover is replaced by "Mango". I had thought it was Island, like "Super Ape Island", not referring to the record label.

I think this is my favorite VMP release so far. Great bass on this, which is what it needs.

On the title song "super ape" is the singer asking Am i ready to step with ironman?

Am i ready to step with ironman?"I-Man". Look into the use of "I" in Jamaican language. You've probably heard "I n' I" in tracks before?

Excellent pressing and the sound is loud !

This is, in my opinion, the definitive version of Super Ape. Simply Vinyl does a wonderful job with this LP. The album sounds amazing and is pressed on beautiful 180 gm vinyl. No noise, pops or distortions.... just a clear and dynamic recording. The sleeve is also beautifully reproduced in great detail. I have seen and heard lots of inferior pressings of this album... the simply vinyl one is great.

I take it back... there is a 2-disc LP out there with bonus tracks... that may be better! (but I don't have it, so I don't know!)

The Jamaican mix is far superior the Island mix which adds a harsh treble; until you listen to the Jamaican mix you won't realise how much Island damaged the sound...

Is this the Jamaican mix, but with the tracks in the island order. As the track listing is the same. What's the quality like of this re issue some can bad to say the least

Yes it is just the Jamaican artwork and the same crummy Island mix - it is a shame that this is the mix most people have heard and not how Lee Perry intended it to sound...

... And the best dub album ever goes to (dramatic pause while god opens the envelope)... Lee Perry and The Upsetters for their 1976 album 'Super Ape' (mad applause and cheering). Yes indeed - this album goes back to when dub almost began, and although there were a few albums before it such as 'Pick A Dub' and 'Surrounded by the Dreads at the National Arena', etc. 'Super Ape' came along and took that dub sound that its predecessors were scratching at and perfected it. Lee Scratch Perry is a musical legend and a true genius - Praise Jah.

Stonking Roots Reggae from the true Master Lee 'Scratch' Perry. This is by far the best of all his Ape/Kung Fu carnation inspired albums. Each of the riddims are pure classic Perry and some instantly recognisable and have been utilised by other Reggae artists with classic vocals over the top. The production is superb & groundbreaking for the time with the wizard working his magic in the legendary Black Ark studios. Any Reggae aficionado NEEDS this album!

Its the sort of album that makes you want to go and spend all your money on Jamaican records.
