I have maybe all versions of Tarkovskij music. Many aren't listed here. Maybe I'll do it later. Here on this releases maybe the only original track is the Meditation, the Stalker theme. All the rest were saturated and reconstructed (sometimes with digital synthesizers...) or even never applied in the movies themselves. Abolutely disappointing. For a good example: The opening Stalker Theme on the CD is nothing but a kitschy, very amatheur-made digital sounding melody track. Absolutely unmatches to the Stalker feeling but it uses the title for attentional purposes. The unforgettable train-theme where they go so long to the zone on a small train, it has a hypnotic soundtrack (originally). Well, on these records it's also reconstructed DIGITALLY. Very precisely done but absolutely bad-approach. For me, it sounds like delayed Yamaha DX-7. Baaah... How can someone be so stupid? On the top, he uses something a cheap pcm-digital sounding synth as a melody line (I think it's an Emulator-II) which was never featured in the movie Stalker. I think he wanted to make a kind of new-age/synth-music album out of it on it's own. That is good for music enthusiasts but bad for the purists who want to grab the original feeling of the Tarkovskij's movies. I like Tangerine Dream and Artemiev always had a kind of T.D. approach. Some of his soundtracks are accordingly good(Seberiada). On this album you notice some of such aproach which I personally like but the digital synth-usage what is typically a product of the 80's doesn't match to the 70's metaphisics comes from the Tarkivskij movies. Very OK, if you don't have the expectation for the originality. Artemiev has lack of stylistical sense by doing such faliures. I don't know why the hell he didn't let everything as it was originally? Oh, yeah possibly because the 1 original track/movies wouldn't make a complete album (and please don't we forget: there's only 1 soundtrack in the Stalker-movie)... Oversaturated, overcomplicated, a bit tasteless chaos is the album, not mentioning the usage of some very cheap, tasteless sonic timbres of cheap late 90's pcm synth modules. Shit. I think it all was about the money. BUUUT: Apart from it all: I LIKE the album. I was now pointing at the minuses but the album is worth to buy. It surrounds you with a touch of Tarkovskij anyway and lots of deep meditations and lots of dramatic and dreamy soundscapes. The last track is shockingly dramatic!!! (Not featured in the movies) Artemiew has an extreme sense for the dramatury and for the tragedy tough. If you are a Tarkovskij fan, it's really a must. If you love synth music, it's a remarkable new-age, touch of Berlin school, soundtrack, noise album. Everytime I watch a CCCP movie, I always recognise Artemiev's sound. But it was the 70's, and on analog synths. Great era, great music, very good approach. This CD is not quite about that era and feelings. Counterfeit of Tarkovskij soundscapes.... As bad as good but it's a must anyway.... Buy it on CD and that's it!

Buyer beware: almost none of this music is the original soundtracks from the fine films of Tarkovsky. Instead we have expanded and newly recorded electronic music that only bears a passing resemblance to the haunting sounds heard in the original movies. Apart from "Meditation" (which sounds to be the original music) it might as well all be considered new songs by another artist. Worse still, it sounds to my ears like sub-standard Tangerine Dream from the late eighties. A terrible disappointment.
