Aurizar
John Tejada’s fourth album for Kompakt, DEAD START PROGRAM, starts with the angular tones and flustered percussion of “Autoseek” but the straight-up electro-tech of “Detector” quickly sets things right. Tejada definitely channels early 90s techno here, giving “Sleep Spindle” a solid wiggle to keep it moving, and “Hypochondriac” an 808 State-style drive. The slower “Loss” carries on its bassline, while “The Looping Generation” goes for a full-on acid workout. “Telemetry” oscillates with the best of them, but “Duty Cycle” returns to a steady beat, lending that rhythm to the bleepy slides of “All at Sea.” “Heal” dives into pure techno with a little Spanish flair, before the moody strings of “Quipu” add a melancholy texture to the track. An interesting change of direction for Mr. Tejada.
