While neither Redrum EP can be described as common, this 2nd one appears to almost not exist at all. It's a real shame their music is so obscure and hard to hear, even in the modern internet era, because both EPs are unique takes on hardcore with imaginative beats and samples that avoid the usual overused cliches and take trips into sonic areas nobody else was going. Their sound is hard to describe, quite busy and multi-layered, with all sorts of strange sounds popping in and out, both calm/melodic and hard/brutal at times. Avant hardcore. The A side here works great as hardcore at 45rpm, but is also amazing at 33 as slow dreamy trippy breakbeat experimentalism, with heavenly female vocal samples that sounds like they were taken from some ancient long lost solo funeral folk recording. I can't find anything about the mysterious Redrum, who they were or if they recorded anything else. Anyone know anything?

honestly, I have no idea....could be pseudonyms, could be anyone! I guess we'll never know unless the artists responsible show up here one day.....

Are you sure they were Japanese? I know their 'names' imply that, but these are UK pressings, fit in very much with what was happening in the UK hardcore scene at the time (albeit a unique take on it) and weren't released anywhere else. I'd be very surprised if 'Tetsu' and 'Yoshi' weren't pseudonyms for a couple of drug guzzling Brit kids.

Don't know anymore than what the Discogs info gives, they were a Japanese duo. Whoever they were, they made original and avant-garde Hardcore as you stated. Redrum is obviously inspired from the movie "The Shining" which is what the boy writes on the mirror and keeps croaking out weirdly "redrum, redrum!!". Whilst the samples across the 2 releases are generally dark and manic, the flavour of "I Want 2 B With U" here is almost like a summer-esque trip-hop tune with lovely mellow breakdowns, hypnotic almost child-like innocent vocals and wicked fierce skippy beats; those delicate vocals that mellow you out take you somewhere else, I've never heard a tune from that era/genre quite like it. It is a really special tune, first brought to my attention when deepbass9 posted it on his original YT channel around 2010-ish. I've never forgotten it since, it's just an absolutely wonderful tune, not sure if it's sample-laden or just originally conceived but by comparison to stock-in-trade Hardcore of the era it's something else.....wonderful, weird, eccentric Hardcore from mysterious origins - only adds to the appeal for me. Essential for those who crave and love under-the-rocks/radar obscurities and hidden gems/rarities. Never heard this played out either back then or in modern throwback sets, which is a shame as it's an absolute gem of a tune (although understandable given its scarcity!) :)
